Mother Fucking Bass!

Speaking of Dirty Words...

You might want to plug the kids' ears for this one.

And maybe I should say "NSFW"...

We've got the MF Bass.

I Don't Think I Care

Here's an oddball...a rarity.

This one comes off September is Salami Month, our first collection of songs.

It is a true 4-track number - meaning that there were only 4 tracks used in the recording; no bouncing tracks down. For those of you who don't know, with a 4-track recorder, you can mix tracks down to get more space.

For example, if you record guitar, bass, vox on 3 tracks, you can mix all those down to the fourth track and then have 3 tracks free to record again. That's why you often hear so many things going on in what should just be a 4-track recording.

In this case, this song only uses 4 tracks. I did a guitar part and sang while Steve played the keyboard (the crazy percussion) on tracks 1 and 2. Then we went through the song again, with me singing into a mic (the distorted vocal) while Steve held another mic up to the monitor to get that noisy feedback.

This is definitely not a typical Snow Goat's song (if there is such a thing):

I Don't Think I Care.

Meat Enzo

So, as you know, at the time we were recording September is Salami Month, Steve and I were working in the deli section of the Santa Barbara Market.

When one cuts deli meats, the ends are basically junk, and so we would sell these along with bits that dropped on the floor, or sometimes with other random pieces, for an arbitrary price - usually very cheap. We called these 'meat ends'. People would use these for all sorts of questionable things - I usually tried not to ask.

At the same time, there was a young kid - I believe he was 15 years old - who worked with us, his name was Enzo.

Steve and I met in 1996 when we were both employees of the Santa Barbara Market, a neighborhood grocery store on Commercial Drive in Vancouver. We hit it off pretty fast and discovered we had a mutual interest in music. We decided we'd get together and do some recording into Steve's brother's four-track recorder just for fun.

Because we worked in the deli section of the Santa Barbara, where we cut cheeses and meats for the ravenous and often rancorous locals, we had access to lots of cool stickers which came in the boxes with the deli items. Due to the fact that there was one particularly nifty sticker that came with a particular kind of cheese, we took that cheese's name as our own and so we had snazzy stickers before we even played a musical note together. We thought that was pretty cool.

Over the years, the rock duo Snow Goat's has recorded scads of hits.

With boxes and boxes of cassettes, reels, and a hard drive all bursting with tracks, we decided it was high time to set them free on the internets.

Keep your eyes on this site for regular updates, with tales, memorabilia, and most of all hits!

Enjoy!
