Can you catch at all?

seaweed pulling down on my legs.

It doesn't have to hurt,

Can you catch?

Do you know that air surrounds me?
Do you know it's all that I can breathe?
Is it fun to go out late at night?
Was it on your tongue last night?
Was it sticky when you finished it?
Or was it soaked and broken down like a Holiday?

This is a little ditty from the cassette we made in 1997, called Enter the Goat.

It tells the tale of a man running the Boston Marathon, not very successfully - in fact his ordeal is quite brutal and unpleasant ("blisters popping in my shoes" - for example). But, despite his tribulations, he carries on, hoping to finish before he keels over dead. And even at the end, after everyone has left, and there's no one remaining to cheer him on, he still he looks forward to next year when he can do it all over again.

A testament to perseverance, strength of will, and determination perhaps? Or maybe just to stupidity...
